Queer studies maybe more than anything, just another way to understand people who do not live the same lifestyle as you.  Hopefully if people continue to take queer studies classes, they will understand to at the very least, tolerate those that surround you.

Still, no matter ho hard you try, there will always be people who will think that they are right in everything they do, and feel that it is their place to tell others how to live.  One such person, Rev. Fred Phelps from the Westboro Baptist Church actually protests at funerals saying that all gay people should die and all Americans should as well because we as America accept them into society.

As far as queer studies is concerned, it was started at City College of San Francisco.  Here is the home page for the Queer Studies Department there.  Note the pride they take in being the first Queer Studies Department.  You can use the links to look ant the history of the department and the courses one might take.
